Red Hot Chili Peppers recently began working on their new album, the followup to 2016’s The Getaway. Flea posted a new photo showing how beat up his fingers were after one of the first days at work.

He wrote on Instagram, “Rockin into some hard double stop shit with the boyz today. Boom bap baaaam. Yeah. Breathing good air and lettin rhythms fly into the California sky. Tearing those fingers up.Flocks of birds flyin by and all the vibrations gettin in their feathers fly high high.”

Chad Smith shared a new studio photo on his birthday of himself flipping off the camera.

He wrote on Instagram, “This goes out to….”

Red Hot Chili Peppers are expected to release their new album in 2019. The three year break between The Getaway and the next album will be the Chili Peppers’ quickest album turnaround since the three year break between 1999’s Californication and 2002’s By the Way. Fans had to wait four years for 2006’s Stadium Arcadium, and five years for both 2011’s I’m With You and 2016’s The Getaway.

Flea recently pushed back the release of his memoir Acid for the Children to 2019. The book will not cover any of his time in the Red Hot Chili Peppers, which upset many fans in online RHCP communities who had pre-ordered the book expecting stories about the iconic band.
