Rob Reiner described his son Nick Reiner as healthy and stable just weeks before Nick was arrested and charged with killing Rob and his wife, Michele Reiner. The contrast between those comments and the charges has stunned both Hollywood and investigators.
Rob Reiner’s Optimistic Interview
Rob’s remarks were made during a September interview, recorded about three months before the killings. At the time, he was promoting This Is Spinal Tap II: The End Continues and spoke positively about Nick’s recovery from addiction.
In the interview, Rob said his son had been doing well and had not used drugs for more than six years. He added that Nick was “in a really good place,” suggesting the worst was behind him.
Charges and Disturbing Allegations
Authorities now allege that Nick killed both of his parents inside their Los Angeles home on December 14. He has been charged with two counts of first-degree murder. Investigators say the couple were found with multiple stab wounds.
Nick is currently being held without bail at the Twin Towers Correctional Facility and has reportedly been placed on suicide watch.
Troubling Final Days
Investigators believe Nick had a heated argument with his father the night before the killings at a party hosted by Conan O’Brien. Witnesses later described Nick’s behavior as erratic.
Authorities also say Nick stayed at a Santa Monica hotel after the alleged murders, where staff reported finding signs of blood in his room.
