Nick Reiner’s Family Expected to Skip Trial
Nick Reiner is expected to face his upcoming murder case without relatives in the courtroom, as he awaits further proceedings in Los Angeles. The 32-year-old has pleaded not guilty and remains in custody ahead of a preliminary hearing scheduled for April 29.
According to Yahoo Entertainment, a source claimed Reiner’s family plans to avoid attending the trial because being present would be “too painful,” and the same reporting said relatives also do not intend to cover legal costs connected to his defence.
Reiner is charged with two counts of murder in the deaths of filmmaker Rob Reiner and Ms Michele Singer Reiner, who were found stabbed at their home. In court filings to date, he has waived his right to a speedy preliminary hearing, and his representation has shifted from a private attorney to a public defender.
Alternative Nation previously reported that Rob Reiner’s children stopped funding Nick Reiner’s lawyer after his private counsel stepped away, leaving him with a public defender as the case continues through the early stages.
Los Angeles County District Attorney Mr Nathan Hochman has said prosecutors still intend to seek the death penalty if Reiner is convicted, citing special-circumstances allegations tied to the charges. The next key step will be the preliminary hearing, where the court will determine whether there is sufficient evidence for the case to proceed to trial.
