Robert Plant Deletes Woody Guthrie Mural Posts
Led Zeppelin legend Robert Plant has removed a set of social media posts featuring Woody Guthrie after the images sparked political arguments online. The deleted posts came as Plant and his band Saving Grace continue a run of U.S. tour dates.
Plant shared a photograph of a Guthrie mural at the Woody Guthrie Center in Tulsa, Oklahoma, captioning it “Woody … is this what you meant??” before later removing the posts from his official Facebook, Instagram and Threads pages.
According to fans, Saving Grace performed in Tulsa on March 16, and the mural image included the words “This land is your land” alongside Guthrie’s guitar slogan “This Machine Kills Fascists,” prompting readers in the comments to argue over what they believed Plant was implying politically.
The deletions follow previous instances of Plant engaging with political themes publicly, including his past comments supporting Bruce Springsteen after Springsteen delivered speeches opposing Donald Trump.
Plant has not issued a public statement explaining why he removed the Guthrie posts, but the episode underscores how quickly even a tour-related photo can turn into a flashpoint once it hits a major artist’s social feeds.
