Sammy Hagar pays tribute to Charlie Kirk
Former Van Halen singer Sammy Hagar sang a song for the late Charlie Kirk on his Instagram page. Kirk, the Republican leader of Turning Point USA, was shot to death on a college campus on Wednesday in Utah. Kirk’s body was flown back home on Air Force Two with Vice President JD Vance yesterday.
Hagar wrote that the song was not a political statement, he was simply paying tribute. Hagar wrote, “this is not a political statement this is a question? RIP @charliekirk1776.”
Rockers have had a variety of reactions to Kirk’s death, with System of a Down calling for a calming of the political divide.
Former Pearl Jam drummer Dave Abbruzzese posted today on Facebook. Note that he made some claims about Kirk’s shooter that have not been verified by authorities.
“Donald Trump when asked about the death of his “friend” Charlie Kirk and immediately pivots to rambling about his hideous White House ballroom.
This man really does not care about another single soul…
“My condolences on the loss of your friend Charlie Kirk. Can I ask you personally, how are you holding up in the last day and a half?” a reporter asked.
“I think very good and by the way, right there, you see all the trucks?” said Trump. “They just started construction of the new ballroom for the White House, which is something they’ve been trying to get, as you know for about a hundred and fifty years.”
“And it’s gonna be a beauty,” he continued. “It’ll be an absolutely magnificent structure. And as you see all the trucks, we just started, so… It’ll get done, uh, very nicely and it’ll be one of the best anywhere in the world actually.”
At this point, Trump’s callousness shouldn’t surprise anyone but even by his low standards this was a jaw-dropping response. MAGA world has been insisting that Trump saw Kirk as a son and so he must be gutted by the tragic assassination. In reality, it appears that Trump could not care less.
Charlie Kirk devoted his life to spreading hatred, bigotry, and forwarding the MAGA movement in service of Donald Trump’s agenda. He hasn’t been dead even three days yet and Trump has already moved on. He’d rather talk about his gaudy ballroom and fantasize about the big parties he’s planning. This man has never cared about anyone but himself in his entire life.
There is also another cynical layer of analysis to be had here. Republicans were gleefully spreading the fake story that the Kirk assassin was a transgender individual. It now turns out that the suspect is a white Utah Mormon man. He also — despite what Trump was implying — is not a registered Democrat or part of the “radical left.” Now that the narrative is no longer politically advantageous for him, Trump wants to move on.”
