Former Van Halen singer Sammy Hagar recently reflected on a fan’s confusion over crowd size at his recent live show. He took a subtle jab at fellow Van Halen frontman David Lee Roth in a post shared on Instagram.

Hagar dropped a video from his sold-out performance in Mount Pleasant, Michigan, celebrating the success of two back-to-back shows in the state. As a fan asked whether the crowd was as large as claimed, Hagar was cleared the air and couldn’t resist a dig at Roth in the process.

“Two sold out shows in Michigan, Detroit, Mount Pleasant, the state rocks and everyone in it thank you, thank you,” Hagar wrote in the caption of his post.

A Van Halen fan then commented on the post, casting doubt on the turnout: “Didn’t look like that many people was there from others posts??”

Hagar responded directly to the skepticism and dismissed the doubts with a pointed remark.

“Sold out. It sold out,” Hagar replied. “You must’ve seen David Lee Roth post and got confused.”

The comment was a friendly shot at Roth, implying a contrast between the two former Van Halen singers’ respective crowd sizes. No further response from either party has been reported.

The exchange is the latest chapter in a long-running rivalry between the two men. It has played out publicly for decades and shows no signs of cooling down as both continue to tour in 2026.
