Sebastian Bach Apologises After Applegate Memoir Reveal
Sebastian Bach has issued a public apology after actress Christina Applegate described a decades-old MTV Video Music Awards moment in her newly released memoir, reigniting attention around the former Skid Row frontman’s late-1980s rock-star era and its impact on people around him.
Applegate wrote that she left a then-unknown Brad Pitt during the 1989 MTV Video Music Awards after meeting Bach, and Bach said he was “very surprised” by the renewed attention while apologising “if I hurt her…if I hurt anybody.”
Bach also reflected on how quickly life moved when he was touring at the time, comparing the experience to “being on a roller coaster,” and reiterated that he regretted causing pain. In her book, Applegate wrote that Pitt was “very mad” afterwards and that, with time, they came to view her decision through the lens of her being young.
The memoir excerpt has circulated widely because it intersects Hollywood and hard-rock lore, and it has also fuelled fresh coverage of the story, including earlier reporting on Applegate’s account of leaving Pitt for a rock singer as the anecdote returned to the headlines.
With Applegate’s memoir now out in the public sphere, Bach’s response effectively frames the episode as a long-ago by-product of a chaotic touring lifestyle, while acknowledging that the people involved may have carried the memory far longer than he did at the time.
