Silverchair have had a very storied history even though it seemed like they just started before they ended their short lived career at the top. It should be stated, however, that just because Silverchair no longer dominated the charts; it didn’t mean that they fell off or lost their musical talent by any means. To the contrary, Silverchair actually wrote their most musical songs after their biggest hits.
Many fans remember Silverchair for a few songs. Let’s say ‘Freak’ and ‘Israel’s Son’ being two of the more notable songs. After those songs have ran their course, the band stepped outside their very comfy and tight comfort zone into something bigger than even themselves.
This is where we entered the era of ‘Emotion Sickness’ and the albums that would follow which were Neon Ballroom, Diorama, and Young Modern. Many fair-weather fans wrote off the band even just after Frogstomp when the band was still figuring themselves out. The true fans stayed and watched and grew with the band since the band was still in their early teens when they changed pace and course.
There is a very subtle, yet also large similarity to the records of Neon Ballroom, Diorama, and Young Modern. Daniel Johns recently put up a post on his Instagram which showed him and the band playing ‘Emotion Sickness’ through eras. Daniel Johns pointed out that the three aforementioned records were meant to be a collective – or, as he states, a “trilogy” of sorts.
Daniel Johns mater-of-factly stated this in the comments as he stated: “I think Neon, Diorama and Young Modern all compliment each other as a 3 part series.” Sadly, we won’t ever see another Silverchair record, but we like to thing that their pinnacle was the trilogy even though it was never meant to be one, but it also was meant to be one the entire time. That’s the beauty of the band.
