At Day 2 of the Austin City Limits Festival, there were two beautiful tributes to Tom Petty. After Ice Cube’s set, a past live performance of “Free Fallin” began to play on all of the video screens, and skydivers literally went free fallin from above.

Later on during Red Hot Chili Peppers’ headlining set, guitarist Josh Klinghoffer covered Petty’s “A Face In The Crowd” to begin the encore. Watch video of the skydivers free fallin’ below. RHCP also dedicated their Funkadelic cover “What Is Soul?” to Tom Petty.

The Chili Peppers and Ice Cube also both made reference to the recent Las Vegas shooting, with both talking about the importance of love. Ice Cube mentioned how important it was that fans showed up to the festival even in the wake of what happened in Vegas. The Chili Peppers’ performance seemed emotionally charged to kick off their set, with Vegas weighing on both the band and fans.

Live also covered Audioslave’s “I Am The Highway” in honor of Chris Cornell.
