A brand-new supergroup featuring some of the biggest names in rock and metal is set to perform at Ozzy Osbourne and Black Sabbath’s farewell show at Villa Park this summer. And leading this powerhouse lineup is Billy Corgan of The Smashing Pumpkins, alongside Rage Against the Machine’s Tom Morello and Tool’s drumming mastermind, Danny Carey.

This one-off collaboration is already being hailed as one of the most exciting moments of the Back to the Beginning festival, a night stacked with rock and metal royalty.

On July 5th, 2025, Aston Villa’s Villa Park in Birmingham will host one of the most legendary concerts in metal history. The event, called Back to the Beginning, serves as Ozzy Osbourne and Black Sabbath’s final show, and the lineup is nothing short of insane.

Sharon Osbourne and Tony Iommi dropped the bombshell about the supergroup.

Sharon Osbourne, who helped curate the event, revealed that Tom Morello was instrumental in bringing everything together.

Planet Rock’s Loz Guest spoke with Sharon Osbourne and Tony Iommi on Wednesday (5th February) at Villa Park, and at one point Loz commented that the jaw-dropping line-up is like a three-day festival condensed into one day.

“It’s bigger than a festival line-up,” Sharon responded. “That’s the whole thing, that how it’s huge. You see all the different people that are coming in from different bands who are not playing as their band but playing with other musicians that you wouldn’t normally think you’d see them playing with.”

Asked by Loz if we’re going to see a “supergroup” situation with the individual musicians coming together, Tony replied: “Yeah, I suppose it will be. It’s a very big supergroup – a lot of them.”

Revealing who’s going to be joining forces in one of the supergroups, Sharon chipped in: “You know like Tom Morello is going to be playing with Billy Corgan and the drummer from Tool (Danny Carey, who wasn’t on Wednesday’s line-up announcement).

“You wouldn’t have thought you’d see those three guys together but they’re all from Chicago, they’re all home guys. They thought ‘well, we’re all here together, let’s do it!’”

Enthusing about musical director Tom Morello’s hands-on involvement in organising the Back to the Beginning concert, Sharon said: “I have to tell you, I couldn’t have done it without him. Absolutely could not have done it. He’s just been amazing.”

Tony added: “It was a hell of a job to take on!”
