Soundgarden guitarist Kim Thayil indicated that Matt Cameron has upcoming Pearl Jam commitments, which should be music to the ears of fans worried about the band’s future, especially as Eddie Vedder recently revealed why the band take many hiatuses.

Thayil revealed the news in an interview where he also said he has talked with Cameron and Ben Shepherd about playing Soundgarden music live again together in the future. Soundgarden reunited for the ‘I Am The Highway’ Chris Cornell tribute show in January featuring guest singers like Taylor Momsen and Taylor Hawkins.

Kim said yesterday that Soundgarden’s requests to Chris Cornell’s camp for demo files they need to complete their unfinished new album have sadly been rejected, keeping the band’s final album in the vaults.

Thayil told Music Radar, “Me, Matt and Ben have certainly talked about working together. We all have an interest in playing live, mostly because we like playing that material. And we’re not going to be able to play the material that we enjoyed from Soundgarden unless we play it together. But Matt’s got Pearl Jam duties, I have a few dates in the fall that I’ve been offered to play with the MC5 for MC50, like I did last fall.

“So, other than that, I’d like to get another original band together, start writing with some friends. I should have done that the first time we broke up, but I liked not having to deal with lawyers and accountants and record company people and managers. [laughs]”
