Soundgarden members Matt Cameron, Kim Thayil, Ben Shepherd, and original bassist Hiro Yamamoto are reportedly rehearsing ahead of their long-awaited Rock & Roll Hall of Fame induction next month. The reunion marks the first time Yamamoto, who left the band in 1989, will join his former bandmates onstage in decades.

Soundgarden planning something big?

Heart’s Nancy Wilson, Taylor Momsen, Alice in Chains’ Jerry Cantrell are all expected to take part in the tribute performance.

Soundgarden guitarist Kim Thayil also previously revealed the band will perform with guest singers, which puts previously announced guest Brandi Carlile in play, who performed with the band in 2019.

Each of these artists shares a deep connection to Soundgarden. Momsen toured with the band in 2017 as their opening act, indicating a close bond with Chris Cornell in the months before his passing. She also sang for Soundgarden in 2019 at the Chris Cornell tribute show.

Wilson has long been close to the Seattle scene, having collaborated with Cornell on the Singles soundtrack and other projects over the years. Cantrell, meanwhile, was one of Cornell’s closest friends and a peer in the grunge movement

Cantrell and Wilson even performed together several times, including at tribute concerts following Cornell’s death. The Rock Hall lineup further got the fans excited as Jerry Cantrell was officially added to the 2025 induction ceremony lineup, prompting speculation that he may take on lead vocals during Soundgarden’s set for a song. Fans are also hoping to see Alice In Chains inducted someday, as they are the last of the Seattle big four to be missing from the Hall of Fame.
