Consequence of Sound reports that Stephen Malkmus has shot down rumors of a Pavement 30th anniversary reunion tour.

In late 2017, Pavement’s Scott Kannberg, a.k.a. Spiral Stairs, discussed a possible reunion during an appearance on an Italian podcast. “We haven’t really discussed it, but there has been some talk about our 30th anniversary in 2019 maybe doing some stuff, so stay tuned!” Kannberg said at the time.

But in a new interview with Kyle Meredith With…, Malkmus downplayed the possibility of another Pavement reunion. “I’m not so keen on it right now,” he explained. “We put our heart into this record [Sparkle Hard]. And I have some other tricks up my sleeve. Combine that with things like my wife’s career and family… I’m full time with my life, so I don’t know if I have time for a Pavement reunion.”

Pavement reunited for a one off tour in 2010 and released no new material. Smashing Pumpkins frontman Billy Corgan criticized them at the time.

“Just found out SP is playing with Pavement in Brazil. It’s gonna be 1 of those New Orleans type funerals… I say that because they represent the death of the alternative dream, and we follow with the affirmation of life part… funny how those who pointed the big finger of ’sell out’ are the biggest offenders now…yawn. they have no love… by the way, we’ll be the band up there playing NEW songs because we have the love xx”
