The Covino & Rich Show recently uploaded a previously unreleased online 2016 interview with surviving Stone Temple Pilots members Robert and Dean DeLeo. The DeLeos discussed STP’s legacy and the power of the Grunge era.

Robert said, “I think about what David Bowie just did, no one really knew what kind of condition he was in, and look what he left. I mean that’s really heavy, what he just did.”

Dean added, “I heard Elton John is just now releasing his 33rd studio album. That’s a legacy man, 33 records.”

A DJ then asked if he believed the 90’s rock era was a special time.

Dean responded, “I think it was man, absolutely.”

Rober said, “Things changed a lot then, I mean it changed a lot of things. It hasn’t been the same since, and it wasn’t the same before that. It was kind of a moment where things were real.”

When a DJ asked where they saw their place with 90’s heavyweights like Alice In Chains, Soundgarden, and Nirvana, Robert was modest.

“Just trying to contribute great music to the face of music.”

Dean also discussed his favorite memories of late STP frontman Scott Weiland.

“I’ll tell you the greatest memories. There was a time when we were together where he was just so vibrant and electric, and overflowing, he was unable to contain himself with excitement and ideas. It was really infectious to be around. I’ll tell you, and I think Robert will agree, every time we got to hear what he did to one of our songs, because he loved going in late at night. He loved starting his vocals at 9 or 10 at night, and we’d lay all the music down, and he’d go in, and when we would hear what he did as a songwriter, how fulfilling that was, and inspired, it was some of the greatest moments.”

Robert added, “We would want to write the best music for him to sing over, and when he did his vocals, he would want to write the best vocals to sing over our music. That’s respect, we had great respect for each other, that we would put that together like that. That’s really the basic thing, is having respect for each other, that creates something that we honored each other with.
