System of a Down guitarist takes shot at Oasis
System of a Down guitarist Daron Malakian insulted Oasis with a new Instagram post on Oasis, which has ‘f**k Oasis’ in the background. Oasis and System of a Down are currently playing stadiums in North America.
Back in 2022, Gallagher labeled System of a Down “the shittiest band of all time” during an interview, a remark reported by Far Out and widely circulated across fan forums.
“Do you ever look at the sky and think, I’m glad I’m alive? After I heard System of a Down, I thought, I’m actually alive to hear the shittiest band of all time. Which is quite something when you think about it. Of all the bands that have gone before and all the bands that’ll be in the future, I was around when the worst was around.”
Fans were quick to defend the Armenian-American metal group, with some arguing that the jab was ironic given Oasis’s own divisive reputation, with one fan saying: “Coming from Oasis, that’s rich.”
What complicates the feud is that Gallagher has used nearly identical phrasing to attack other bands over the years. In 2024, Far Out noted he blasted Sum 41 as “the shittiest band of all time,” muddying the timeline of his barbs and keeping speculation alive about which insult came first.
Daron Malakian wrote most System of a Down songs
In a recent interview with Chris Jericho, System of a Down guitarist Daron Malakian suggested that he wrote a majority of the band’s music, including lyrics previously credited to frontman Serj Tankian. This is similar to Noel Gallagher’s role in Oasis.
Malakian’s comments came while he was discussing his solo project Scars on Broadway and their latest album “Addicted to the Violence.”
“When people compare Scars to System, you’re going to hear the System DNA. I wrote a huge… 90, 95 percent of the System stuff, vocals included,” Malakian said.
“I mean, I wrote vocals, guitars arrangements in System. But… Scars kind of leans more into rock direction, and it always kind of has. I don’t know if that’s because my writing kind of went into that direction. I don’t know if we continued to do System, would System have gone into more of a rock direction?”
Later in the interview, however, Malakian clarifies that SOAD wouldn’t be SOAD if any one of its members – himself, Tankian, Shavo Odadjian, and John Dolmayan – was missing.
“You’re not going to get System of a Down from anywhere else,” Malakian explained. “Like, I have a certain style of writing. Serj is a certain type of frontman. I’m a certain type of singer myself. You know, we both have a style that complements [each other]. I don’t know, it’s just what we do. And if you like it… I mean, some people really love it, and some people f*cking hate it. [But] it’s us.”
