Serj Tankian has tested positive for COVID-19, forcing System of a Down to postpone their Los Angeles concerts with Korn. In his announcement about testing positive, Tankian indicated that he plans on retiring from touring in the not too distant future.

“After having 3 really fun shows, I got back to LA with flu-like symptoms. I am shocked that it could even be Covid as I am not just vaccinated but also incredibly careful. I am so sorry to have to push these dates yet again especially to those who made sacrifices to be here from out of town. Touring is not something I intend to continue doing down the line so these handful of shows have meant the world to me. Thank you for your love and understanding . Peace Serj.”

Fans were understanding of Tankian’s decision on Reddit. AceofKnaves44 commented, “To be totally honest, I can’t say I blame him. Like, obviously the health issues are something no one can blame him for as that’s well beyond his control, but I feel like touring is something I’d get sick of very quickly if I was in a band. One of the reasons I kind of get where he’s coming from in his argument against making a new album as he’s said that once you do that, there’s kind of a expectation out on you to promote it with a long tour.”

Drummer John Dolmayan has also hinted that System of a Down may not be together touring long term.
