System of a Down drummer John Dolmayan and bassist Shavo Odadjian worked in the studio this weekend on “great song ideas.”

Dolmayan wrote on Instagram, “Great song ideas flowing from a very strong songwriter. Stay tuned.”

Daron Malakian recently told Ultimate-Guitar that a new System of a Down album is not planned.

“We play live. We’ve got five shows booked in October. I’m playing a festival in Mexico City and the first night I’m playing with System and the second night I’m playing a set with Scars [on Broadway]. They’re both co-existing but as of right now but when it comes to my writing is with Scars. With System, we go and play the old stuff, the five albums but we’re just not on the same page as a band when it comes to moving forward and making an album.”

He added, “That’s fine but the only frustrating thing for me with that is I waited so long to release these songs and kinda waiting around to see what happened there. There is no new System album planned. Some bands write albums for 20, 30 or 40 years but people change and want to take different directions. I can’t hate on anybody for that. Some of my band members have kids and are married and I don’t have kids and I’m not married. People change and interests change so it is what it is.

Great song ideas flowing from a very strong song writer . Stay tuned @shavoodadjian
