A fiery rant from conservative activist and musician Ted Nugent has sparked controversy this week, as he publicly blasted the food industry, cancer research and treatment sectors, and current U.S. health policy — while praising Health and Human Services Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr. for proposed regulatory efforts.
Ted Nugent lashes out at food industry
In a fiery rant on social media, Nugent labeled cancer research and treatment as a “billion-dollar industry” and accused large food companies of intentionally “poisoning our kids to death.”
He specifically called out fast-food chains like McDonald’s, Burger King, Chick-fil-A and Dairy Queen, asserting — without evidence — that their products amount to “pure chemical warfare” against American families.
Nugent also alleged that popular breakfast cereal brands such as Kellogg’s and Post are to blame for childhood cancer cases, and attacked the Ronald McDonald House charity, claiming it was more a “Cancer Factory” than a support organization for families of sick children.
While the posts reflect deep frustration with chronic disease rates and diet-related health problems in the U.S., public health experts say the claims dramatically oversimplify complex issues around nutrition, disease and regulatory science.
Some of Nugent’s comments were intertwined with praise for Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr., whom he credited with “finally banning these deadly toxins from our food and medicine in 2025.”
It is true that the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services under RFK Jr. has pushed for greater scrutiny of food additives, particularly synthetic food dyes, as part of what’s known as the Make America Healthy Again (MAHA) movement.
Kennedy has argued that ultra-processed foods and the chemicals added to them are a major contributor to chronic disease in the American diet, and he’s sought to tighten oversight on how these chemicals enter the food supply.
