Cedric Bixler-Zavala recently took to social media to criticize the use of what he’s calling “Unc rock” in the show “Alien: Earth.”
The Hulu series has featured a different rock song during the credits of each episode, including tracks by Pearl Jam, Metallica, Queens of the Stone Age, Tool, Black Sabbath, Jane’s Addiction, The Smashing Pumpkins, and Godsmack.
However, the Mars Volta singer appears to be less than impressed with the selections. In a now-deleted Instagram post, he wrote, “No more ‘Unc’ rock at the end of Alien: Earth episodes please. F*cking monster energy drink bullsh*t.”
In response to a fan in the comments who asked “what’s wrong with Tool and QOTSA?”, Bixler-Zavala explained: “Nothing at all. It just doesn’t fit on that show. It feels like Nancy Reagan pushing her DARE agenda on me but with that kinda music.” Most of the bands mentioned are predominately liberal Democrats, not conservative Republicans.
The songs used in the credits of the series’ eight episodes are, in order of appearance:
- Black Sabbath – “The Mob Rules”
- Tool – “Stinkfist”
- Metallica – “Wherever I May Roam”
- Jane’s Addiction – “Ocean Size”
- The Smashing Pumpkins – “Cherub Rock”
- Godsmack – “Keep Away”
- QOTSA – “Song for the Dead”
- Pearl Jam – “Animal”
