Brittany Furlan, wife of Mötley Crüe drummer Tommy Lee, recently addressed accusations of being a “gold-digger” in a candid statement.
The statement focused on defending her financial independence and addressing public criticism about her marriage.
“The thing that has been so annoying to me is people calling me a gold digger when I have made my own money for years,” Furlan said during This is the Worst Podcast.. “I invested my money and I live off of my investments. I take care of myself.”
She continued to emphasize her self-reliance and the values instilled by her upbringing.
“Yeah my husband has done really nice things for me in the marriage and I really appreciate that,” she continued.
“But I pay my bills. I bought my cars. I bought our latest car. I am an independent woman and I will always be an independent person.”
Furlan explained her philosophy on financial independence, referencing lessons from her father.
“I’m not going to let people say that about me because I have always been independent,” she said.
“Anyone who knows me personally knows that. I have never given anyone the power to feed me because then they have the power to starve me. And I will never let that happen. My father always taught me do not ever depend on anyone. Because then they can take it away.”
She concluded her statement with a direct message to critics.
“And my husband has been very generous and has offered to do things for me but I take care of it myself,” she said. “Because I do not ever want to be dependent on anybody. So you guys can shut the f*ck up with that.”
