Nine Inch Nails roared back to the stage last night (June 15) at Dublin’s 3Arena, opening their first full tour in three years with a four-act, 20-song assault that mixed rarities, collaborations and biggest hits. Trent Reznor surprised die-hards by starting on a small B-stage with “Right Where It Belongs,” “Ruiner” and “Piggy”—none played since 2009—before shifting to the main stage for classics “Wish,” “March of the Pigs” and “Copy of A.” Tony Hawk also attended the show, surprising fans backstage.

Mid-show, tour opener Boys Noize joined for a blistering electronic suite (“Vessel,” “Parasite,” “Came Back Haunted”) before the band closed with an arena-wide sing-along to “Hurt” after ripping through “Closer,” “Head Like a Hole,” and a thundering Bowie cover of “I’m Afraid of Americans.”
The “Peel It Back” trek stays in Europe through mid-July, then hits North American arenas starting August 6 in Oakland, wrapping with two nights at Los Angeles’ Kia Forum September 18-20.
