Van Halen icon, Sammy Hagar was interviewed on a new edition of Lance Armstrong’s show, The Forward Podcast. Here, the former Van Halen frontman discussed his admiration for Grateful Dead founding member, Bob Weir and his disdain for weed. Alternative Nation transcribed Hagar and Armstrong’s comments

Armstrong: I don’t know if this is true or not but I heard from a business partner,  a good friend of mine that you and Bob [Weir?] are pretty good buddies.

Hagar: Bob lives right down the street from me.

Armstrong: Right down the street and you guys show up at this place called the Suite Water? [Inaudible]

Hagar: Sweet place.

Armstrong: Impromptu gigs.

Hagar: Yeah, it’s in Mill Valley. Bob, Bob’s the coolest guy I can tell you about right now. Bob makes me seem like a pretentious, fucking, uppity rock star. Weir is so down to Earth. It’s like: “Bob, what are you doing?” “Nothing” “Want to go downtown?” “Yep.” Bob’s a little late once in a while but other than that, he’s sharp. Everybody thinks Grateful Dead but Bob’s not a big weedhead either. See, that’s what he and I have in common. Everyone is smokin’ dope around us and we look: “nah, nah I don’t want to take a hit, I won’t be able to sing.” You can’t sing behind weed, you can’t do anything.
