Weezer frontman Rivers Cuomo recently covered The Smashing Pumpkins classic “Today” during a solo performance at The Hi Hat in Los Angeles. Watch below.
Billy Corgan and the Pumpkins are hard at work on new music they plan to release before their Shiny and Oh So Bright tour.
Corgan wrote on Instagram, “In other ‘news’, recording is now finished for the upcoming ‘Shiny and Oh So Bright’ ep’s 1 + 2, which ended last night with a truly epic sing on Knights of Malta with 3 unbelievably talented women. Probably one of my favorite experiences ever recording with @smashingpumpkins, right up there with the strings on ‘Tonight’. So yes, it’s *all* save for the mixing and mastering. Thank you to everyone who has been so sweet and supportive. We hope to make you proud.”
He also discussed Tony Iommi’s influence on new Smashing Pumpkins material, “Here is a cool shot of Tony Iommi circa early 70’s playing the early Laney amp that’s same series I play on ‘Solara’ and some of the other, new SP songs. Notice Tony is playing 3! Loudest amp I’ve ever played. Can’t wait for everyone to hear these new songs. Soon! @smashingpumpkins #smashingpumpkins #blacksabbath #tonyiommi.”
