Wolfgang Van Halen recently shared a behind-the-scenes look at recording his new song “The End” with his band Mammoth WVH. On Instagram, he revealed that he used his father Eddie Van Halen’s iconic “Frankenstein” guitar for key parts of the song. “Makes me feel closer to Pop,” he said, showing how much it means to carry on part of his dad’s legacy in his own work.

When a fan assumed Eddie had given him guitar lessons, Wolfgang clarified that wasn’t the case. “Nope! No lessons at all actually,” he said, joking that his dad was “a bad teacher.”

A video posted with the update showed Wolfgang using the Frankenstein guitar in the studio. The guitar is one of Eddie Van Halen’s most famous creations and a key symbol in rock history.

Even though he didn’t receive formal lessons, Wolfgang has become a skilled musician—playing multiple instruments, singing, and producing his own music. His song “The End” is both a tribute to his father and a step forward in his own artistic journey. Music outlets like Ultimate Classic Rock and Blabbermouth have praised the song for its energy and emotion, noting how Wolfgang is blending his own style with nods to his legendary roots.
