Yungblud nominated for three Grammys

Yungblud continued his ascent in the world of rock today with three major Grammy nominations for Best Rock Song, Best Rock Performance, and Best Rock Album. He’s competing with big names like Nine Inch Nails, Deftones, and Linkin Park in all three categories, and he seems poised to win big. Over the last year, Yungblud has been hyped up by rock legends like the late Ozzy Osbourne, Steven Tyler, and Billy Corgan as the future of rock. The Grammys will likely take note of Yungblud’s performance at Ozzy’s last show and his collaboration with Aerosmith when deciding on winners, so he seems poised to beat Nine Inch Nails and Linkin Park.

Yungblud posted a video response to his nominations, stating, “MY FIRST 3 GRAMMY NOMINATIONS!!! They’ve nominated “ZOMBIE” for best rock song, “IDOLS” for best rock album and “CHANGES at Villa Park” for best rock performance. I’m with my best friends watching the nominations on a laptop an hour before I go on stage. I’m so lucky to do this. This community and this genre means everything to me. Thank you all. Thank you @RecordingAcad.”

Yungblud has faced a mix of support and criticism from rock fans due to his rapid changes in musical styles over the last few years. Billy Corgan has been vocal with his praise, telling Yungblud, “This is the person that I most compare you to… Elton John. And what I mean by that is you can sing pop, you can sing a ballad and that crowd will go with you. You could do a ‘Tiny Dancer’-type song and it would feel great and credible but you can also sing rock.”

“It was this kind of piano man stuff and that was of the time. But when he went rock is when he really exploded,” the Smashing Pumpkins frontman added. “That shows you why Elton John hit that other level and why he was a stadium act and not just a big pop act.”

The only way for Yungblud to truly win over skeptics will be to write rock classics on the level of the songs his heroes have written. He has not done this yet, but he definitely will have ample opportunities to do it with the support of rock legends and the record industry.
