A Perfect Circle guitarist Billy Howerdel claimed in a new Daily Times interview that Maynard James Keenan and Tool have been writing new music.

“It’s just the way we set it up in the beginning; he and I are at the core of the band, and we’re not going to do it without the other,” Howerdel said. “That’s just the way it is. This is something we’ve talked about for a while; we had a false start that happened a few years ago, but Maynard’s a busy guy. He’s got a lot of things going on, and he’s put in a lot of road time with Puscifer, and he and the Tool guys have been writing. But this hole in the schedule just seemed to work, and we’re anxious to get out on the horse. Now it’s all like, ‘Hurry up, hurry up!’”

He later said, “We’ve had the same lineup for six years now, going on seven, and we’re comfortable playing with each other,” Howerdel said. “It’s like a well-oiled machine. We did that spring run earlier this year, and that was the best, smoothest, most enjoyable tour I’ve ever been on. The crew and the band weren’t phoning it in, and everyone was excited to be there every day. We were doing big places and arenas, and the crowd was really responsive, even though we hadn’t been around for a while. That didn’t go unappreciated, because when you feel it on stage, you can give it back.”

A Perfect Circle will release a new album in spring 2018.
