Pearl Jam’s Dave Abbruzzese On Why Rock Hall of Fame Leaving Him Out Is An ‘Absolute Travesty’

Former Pearl Jam drummer Dave Abruzzese has made another post on Facebook regarding his exclusion from Pearl Jam’s Rock and Roll Hall of Fame induction lineup. He mentioned a story by AlternativeNation.net, which simply re-posted his reactions on Facebook and did not twist anything.

As we mentioned in that story and will mention again here, Alternative Nation has reached out to Abbruzzese for an interview or further comments and received no response. We have been nothing but supportive of his efforts to reach the Hall of Fame.

My friend Kari posted the following;
(From my friend Kari)
“So… Rock & Roll Hall of Fucktardia. Ergh.
It makes absolutely zero sense to me…
I’m just gonna shove this statement up someone’s arse:
“As the original ballot is created, the members of each eligible band are determined by largely who was present and active during the most influential recording years.”

I’m not sure how 275+ live shows and 38% of record sales doesn’t fit their criteria… “

I then reposted it with the added comment from me;
“I may write more about this as time travels on… As for now, I look forward to sharing my first solo album with you all. Thank you for sharing your opinions & for your love & support.”

Already there is an alternativenation.net trying to twist it into idiocy. They even attempted to use a simple show of support from one of my closest friends to create something. Mastering engineer Joe Gastwirt commented to a post that declared the Qualifications of why RRHOF made the choice to leave me off the ballot. He said it is bullshit & I replied to his comment by whole heartedly agreeing.
The qualifications required for me to have been inducted with my former band mates certainly have been met. I challenge anyone to justify why I am not worthy of a place in the history of Pearl Jam. The official reason given from the RRHOF makes it bullshit. It make my years of hard work appear to be worthless towards the success born of the formative years of Pearl Jam. This is simply not the case. The milestones and the success obtained during my period in the band…
The Grammy, AMA’s, Mtv awards, over 20 plus million albums sold.
Mtv Unplugged performance.
SNL twice, etc. Over 275 shows

For anyone to take a stand for denying my right to be recognized, I deserve to hear how you are possibly justifying such an absolute travesty.
Statistics and the opinions of the Pearl jam fans voiced on social media for the last 20 plus years will attest to that.
Someone need only to pull their head out of their ass and add my name.
‘Nuff said?
Thank you, everyone!!

This is ludicrous. Absolutely no reason why both Dave Abruzzese and Jack Irons shouldn’t be included along with Krusen and Cameron. Both played on 2 records each, and although Krusen played on Ten, Abruzzese was THE drummer of Pearl Jam during their most popular years. Another “WTF?!” moment by Jann Wenner and friends at the RRHOF.

Anyone notice how he is the only person that cares that he is not part of it? The more this guy runs his mouth, the more obvious why the other guys in PJ aren’t coming to his defense.

  • Hwang Sunghyeop

Because he was fired. I think that was the reason. But Pearl Jam rise during his period absolutely.

  • Billy

    Grow up?
Ok then you tell me when Eddie, Stone, Jeff, or Mike start their boycott of the induction. They must be so in shock that they haven’t been able to fathom that a guy that was fired from the band wouldn’t be included in their honor.
The silence from them speaks volumes.

We agree he was awesome with them, but clearly the fans valued him more than the band and industry did.

To me it seems like of all the guys in PJ Mike valued Dave the most – just watch PJ receiving Grammy for Spin The Black Circle (after Eddie says something like “this doesn’t award mean anything because there are loads of great bands out there” Stone thanks Dave for his contribution or some such and Mike picks it right up with a “Yeah, right” sneer showing that Stone’s thanksgiving speech was insincere). I also remember Ament trashing Abbruzzese multiple times while at the same time giving Cameron praises.

      • Billy

That’s kinda what i’m getting at. His exclusion wasn’t an oversight, they probably voted to not include him or push for his inclusion.
Now there’s a petition from a fan to get him included and still no response from the RRHOF and PJ.

        • IrregularJohn

“They probably voted” – man you really had me laughing out loud at this one. By Vitalogy PJ was no longer Stone’s band, it was Eddie’s band. Dave was fine with being famous and he was pro guns, while Eddie did not share both of those notions with Dave so he basically fired Dave (as they say he actually had Stone break the news to Abbruzzese).

          • Billy

Unless Jeff, Stone, or Mike say something then they are on the same page as Eddie. To think that his name was completely forgotten by them is ludicrous. They had to have acknowledged his absence from the list and had no problem with it. There was clearly no battle in that decision lol

Eddie does not control these grown up men, if it was important to the rest of them they would do something about it.

          • IrregularJohn

I think it has more to do with “don’t bite the hand that feeds you” sort of thing. Those guys are not the ones to rock the boat. P.S. I wish Mike would go on with Mckagan, Barrett and Cornell (and Lanegan here and there) to make Mad Season-type material.

          • Billy

With 2017 being a Soundgarden year and the fact that he already has done performances with MS and Totd, i would bet Cornell’s next move is with an Audioslave reunion.

  • Hwang Sunghyeop

Sorry forget him a while. IMO But best person for PJ is now Matt. I really he do great job for PJ. He’s great and another life of PJ.

  • astrocreep7

Jack Irons is already in the HOF with RHCP.

  • nomad

I agree. If the RRHOF is going to say Josh Klinghoffer’s participation in the RHCP makes him eligible, how can they say Dave Abbruzzese participation in PJ doesn’t qualify? It’s ridiculous.

  • astrocreep7

Yes, true. But the reason for Dave A. getting in over anybody else such as Irons is this:

The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame have stated that “the members of each eligible band (being inducted) are determined by largely who was present and active during the most influential recording years”.
