Slash criticized the Guns N’ Roses Use Your Illusion albums in a new Guardian interview.

“There was some really really cool shit on those records,” he says. “But it was not the the lean or trim eight-to-10-song record that would have probably been the ideal thing.” And the band was in such turmoil that good decision-making was rather beyond them, hence the 28-month tour to promote the two albums. “As streetwise as I’d like to think the guys were, no one was really prepared for the big-money music business,” admits Slash.

He also said he had issues adjusting to fame during Guns N’ Roses’ hey day.

“You couldn’t just hang out in the pub. That was a little bit of a shock for me and I just did drugs and drank and hid away at my house. That part of it took a long time to try and sort out.”

In a recent interview with the Australian based radio DJ known as Ugly Phil on Triple M, Guns N’ Roses guitarist Slash discussed getting a serious Led Zeppelin haul. Alternative Nation transcribed the comments:

Slash: Hey Man, I’m good how are you?

Phil: Yeah, good to talk to you again, I was just thinking about the last time I saw you, you guys really liked this Led Zeppelin print so I stole it off of the wall here at the radio station.

Slash: Oh yeah! I have it, you guys, you shipped it to me and I remember when I got it, that was three to four years ago. So that’s on the wall here now. I would not have made you sacrifice that if I wasn’t going to [get it and put it up].

In the same interview, Slash touched on the popularity of modern rock band, Greta Van Fleet:

“It’s really opening the doors for a lot of young, new bands — which there are a ton of — that just can’t get any kind of traction,” he said. “So it’s really cool that those guys are making such headway.”

Slash continued:

“The thing is there’s a really cool energy right now for new rock and roll bands, and it’s the right kind of energy, ’cause it’s kids that are into doing this for the right reasons,” Slash continued. “It’s not about getting on MTV, it’s not about fame and stardom, it’s not about Learjets and chicks, ’cause none of that shit [exists in the music industry] anymore. It’s all about the music and it’s about the passion of just doing whatever it takes to be able to get your music out in front of people. So I’m really inspired about what’s gonna be happening over the next two, three to five years, and coming out new music-wise.”
