While fortunately it has been reported that Anthony Kiedis’ health is improving after being hospitalized for a bad intestinal flu over the weekend, a conversation I had with some fans at the KROQ Weenie Roast over the weekend when the Chili Peppers canceled their performance inspired me to create a list of singers who could potentially fill in for Kiedis if he needs to take off another show or two. This will likely never happen, but here is a fun hypothetical list of potential collaborators for the Red Hot Chili Peppers.
10. Scott Stapp
Serk meeeeeiiii KISS! Perhaps a “Higher” and “Higher Ground” mashup?
9. Jason Schwartzman
Jason Schwartzman could fool audiences into thinking he is Anthony Kiedis. He also co-wrote Phantom Planet’s hit “California.” Red Hot Chili Peppers wrote “Californication” and “Dani California.”
8. Fred Durst
He’ll do it all for the Nookie.
7. John Frusciante
John Frusciante could make his triumphant return to the Chili Peppers and infuse his electronic songwriting into future Chili Peppers records as the band’s frontman.
6. Thom Yorke
Peppers for Peace!
5. Kanye West
The voice of a generation.
4. Mike Shinoda
If Mike Shinoda’s Linkin Park bandmate Chester Bennington could front Stone Temple Pilots for a couple of years, why couldn’t Mike Shinoda sing with the Red Hot Chili Peppers?
3. Axl Rose
From Axl/DC to Peppers N’ Roses. Axl Rose could further cement his status as 2016’s king of rock and roll by being a guest singer for the Red Hot Chili Peppers.
2. Zack de la Rocha
Just so we can actually hear something new from Zack de la Rocha.
1. Mike Patton
In all seriousness, Mike Patton would actually be the best choice.
