Arnold passed away peacefully in his sleep, surrounded by his wife, Jennifer Sanderford, and other family members. He had been battling kidney cancer.

The band shared the news on Instagram, saying that Arnold died after a courageous fight with cancer. They described him as a loving husband, family man, and a central part of the band’s identity from the very beginning.

“With heavy hearts, we share the news that Brad Arnold, founder, lead singer, and songwriter of 3 Doors Down, passed away on Saturday, February 7th, at the age of 47. With his beloved wife Jennifer and his family by his side, he passed away peacefully, surrounded by loved ones, in his sleep after his courageous battle with cancer.  Those closest to him will remember not only his talent, but his warmth, humility, faith, and deep love for his family and friends.”

His Impact on Music and His Legacy

Brad Arnold helped shape mainstream rock music in the early 2000s. As a founding member, lead vocalist, and songwriter, he played a key role in the band’s success. One of 3 Doors Down’s biggest songs, Kryptonite, was written by Arnold when he was just 15 years old. The song went on to become a defining hit of the era.

His music connected with millions of fans and became part of everyday life for a generation. Beyond his talent, those close to him remembered him for his kindness, humility, faith, and generosity.

His Battle With Cancer

In May 2025, Arnold publicly shared that he had been diagnosed with stage 4 clear cell renal cell carcinoma, which had spread to his lungs. At the time, he said he was not afraid and thanked fans for their support and prayers.

“I’ve got some not-so-good news for you today. I’ve been sick a couple weeks ago, and I went to the hospital and got checked out, and had actually got the diagnosis that I had clear cell renal cell carcinoma, and it had metastasized into my lung. And it’s stage 4, and that’s not real good.

But we serve a mighty god, and he can overcome anything. So, I have no fear. I really and sincerely am not scared of it at all. But it is gonna force us to cancel our tour this summer, and we’re sorry for that. I’d love for you to lift me up in prayer every chance you get, and I think it’s time to go listen to ‘It’s Not My Time’ a little, right? Thank you guys so much. God loves ya, we love ya. See ya.”

The last post he made before his passing was during Christmas 2025, where he took a photo with his wife Jennifer and their dog, as he said, “Merry Christmas everybody. I can’t tell ya how thankful I am to be here!”

Another photo showed him taking his dog on a walk on Instagram back in 2025, as he said, “Who else loves some walks in wood?” In another one he also uploaded an adorable post of himself with a pony, saying, “I met a frien’!
