“I met this real cool dude today, looking like Jack Palance, he said ‘I want to get through to you and help you find your talent” is the first line of the story lyric of the Pixies’ newest song. Its got an energetic, driving rhythm section, with an array of overlapping, urgent riffs and those famous Joey Santiago guitar squeals of feedback during the solo. The sound is instantly recognizable and is a great way to introduce the new record.
A shot of punk-adrenaline boosts this dense, electrifying track. “I just keep driving, don’t get mixed up in shit, you could get used to it”, Black Francis declares, backed throughout the song by current bassist, Paz Lenchantin, on megaphone.
Both songs may be an indicator that Head Carrier will carry more punk than their previous long player, Indie Cindy.
Pixies have also added some new dates to their late-2016 sold out UK Tour that begins in London at the Brixton Academy November 28th.
