Red Hot Chili Peppers and The Beastie Boys were both inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2012. With high profile snubs like Soundgarden and Alice In Chains in the news due to the latest announcement of 2019 nominees which features Red Hot Chili Peppers’ contemporaries Radiohead and Rage Against The Machine, Kiedis was asked about Red Hot Chili Peppers’ 2012 induction in a new Dash Radio interview with former Hole drummer Scott Lipps. Alternative Nation transcribed Kiedis’ comments.

“That was fun, and it was kind of a nice coincidence or whatever that we ended up joining the same year that the Beastie Boys joined, albeit without Adam Yauch. That was the anguished part of it, but we grew up with The Beastie Boys, and there was always this kind of competitive east coast, west coast, let’s make a better record than The Beastie Boys.

Let’s make a better record than them, but quietly we admired the hell out of them because they were prolific and they were themselves, and they were funky, and they were inventive. They just had it. So to be inducted in the same year as them…”

“I love Mike, we share the waves together, and fatherhood.”
