Tragedy struck the entertainment industry on Wednesday with the loss of two legends of television.
Smashing Pumpkins frontman Billy Corgan wrote on his Instagram story reacting to the death of legendary WWE announcer “Mean” Gene Okerlund on Wednesday.
“RIP Mean Gene! No one has or will ever do it better!”
Regarding the death of Mean Gene Okerlund (via NoDQ.com), his son Tor Okerlund told The Associated Press that his father died early Wednesday at a hospital in Sarasota, Florida. StarTribune.com is reporting that Gene passed away around 5:30 a.m. in the hospital’s emergency room.
Gene’s wife Jeanne was by his side when he died. Tor noted that his father had undergone three kidney transplants and fell ill a few weeks ago, adding that “it just kind of went from bad to worse.” Tor told StarTribune.com that his father was dealing with “a lot of different issues” and the site noted that his death was from natural causes.
Radiohead guitarist Johnny Greenwood was saddened by the death of Bob Einstein, who played Marty Funkhouser on HBO’s Curb Your Enthusiasm, who also died Wednesday.
“So sad to hear this. He was amazing in Curb: I was Marty Funkhouser on the last two Radiohead tours in tribute to his beautifully pitched performance. So subtle. And to think it was all improvised.”
He also shared a photo showing how he checked in as Marty to hotels.
Bob Einstein, the Emmy-winning actor from “Curb Your Enthusiasm” and creator of Super Dave Osborne, died Wednesday from cancer.
Bob had recently been diagnosed, and he died at his home in Indian Wells, CA, TMZ reports.
