Greta Van Fleet Reveal Why ‘Intelligence’ Is Needed To Move On From Led Zeppelin

Greta Van Fleet members Sam and Jake Kiszka were recently interviewed by Forbes, and discussed the ‘assertion to a parralel or similarity with another band,’ likely referencing the Led Zeppelin comparisons.

Sam said that the band tries to ignore a good amount of what is written and said about them, saying that letting outsize amounts of outside opinion threatens to hinder the music. “If we read up on ourselves like that then we would constantly be thinking ‘okay how do we save rock ‘n’ roll’ rather than just doing what we want, which is what we’ve always done and what we will always do. That is why there is no pressure because we all try and ignore it to a certain degree. To a certain extent we think it is dangerous for the art side,” he added.

Jake told Forbes that the pressure can be constant but can’t be allowed to have a negative impact on the band. They are there to create music that is “truthful, meaningful, powerful and hopefully that touches other people.”

“Any band trying to create something of purity or organic quality there will always be an assertion to a parallel or similarity with another band, but I suppose it takes someone of a certain level of integrity or intelligence to discern the creative identity of a band,” he added. “It’s never too much on our minds and it isn’t something we have determined to be important enough to let it affect us or our music.”
