Metallica drummer Lars Ulrich has shared rare photos of himself shirtless from the band’s final major North American television performance with Jason Newsted in 2000.

“Nineteen years ago today, June 3rd 2000, we played the MTV Movie Awards in LA for the first and only time..

This was the first airing of “I Disappear”, which explains the smallest drum kit setup I’ve ever had as you can see from the event itself and sound check..

And of course, please note the streak we’re on, with ‘no shirt’ live appearances. Those were the fuckin days…#wanna”

Ulrich wrote in another recent post, “23 years ago today the video for Until It Sleeps premiered on MTV..

Shot in LA a few weeks earlier, it was directed by Samuel Bayer…and after being off the radar for a few years and returning with a new album, we were ready to express ourselves in new ways and fuck with the perceptions.

Such a fun time…#wanna #tbt”

“What an incredible day!

The Metallica family gives back all across America. Thank you to everybody who came out and gave their time, rolled up their sleeves and got involved in today’s @AllWithinMyHandsFoundation’s Day of Service. I’m so proud of all of you and how we showed the world that we can contribute and make a difference.

I spent a few hours today at the @SFMFoodBank here in the Bay Area, and like last year felt both welcome and humbled to be a part of the amazing team. Thanx again to Paul and Mark and the rest of the awesome gang at the San Francisco-Marin Food Bank, and once more, a giant ‘Fuck Yeah’ to all the volunteers who came out and “Hey again” to everyone I met and said hello to.

Never been prouder to be part of the Metallica family! #wanna #MetallicaGivesBack #AWMH”
