As with all of the bands here, I love listening to them on repeat. Blueanimal is another band that has me hooked. Blueanimal had no problem reeling me in from the start. Let’s dive into this unique sound they carry.

“Orlando-based Rock/Alternative band Blueanimal have announced the impending release of their 3rd full-length album ‘Figment That Was Me’ (release date TBA), their darkest, most inspired work based on real world experience with mental health.” As it were. Now, this is something we can all come together on. Mental health is more important than ever.

Luke Elms is the songwriter/guitarist/vocalist of the band and he took us deeper into his meaning stating:

“Our new project Figment That Was Me is a departure from our previous albums’ sound to a more grunge inspired sound. I wrote this album as a concept album telling the story of a person descending into and rising out of a battle with depression and the consequences it has on his relationships, self-image, and all facets of his life. Our world is in the midst of a pandemic of Covid-19. But, an epidemic that was present before Covid, and will unfortunately still be raging after, is the epidemic of mental health issues and the struggles of public perception, awareness, and stigma that comes along with it. My hope is this album can help take people on a journey through this character’s struggle that will allow those that have fortunately not experienced mental health issues to gain a better understanding and those that are currently struggling to not feel so alone.” Very very powerful.

The single we will be looking at today from the band is titled “Rock Bottom”. When I heard the first few chords of the song, I was personally reminded of Pearl Jam “Corduroy”. Of course, the progression is not the same, but I guess the feeling of it really took me there. The sound of this song is cold, dark, wanting, and yearning for better things to happen.

What I really love most about the song is the music video that comes with it. The video is the perfect blend of 90’s aesthetic and modern art. The chorus in this song mixes Alice In Chains with Breaking Benjamin with the bulk leaning towards Alice In Chains both vocally and guitar-wise.

The words “I can’t get away get away from me” echo at the end before picking the song up one more time. Luke Elms and the band have this down-pat and I can’t wait for more.
