Van Halen reunion was happening in late 2010’s

A Van Halen reunion of the band’s original lineup was in the works during the final years of Eddie Van Halen’s life. This tour would have seen Michael Anthony return on bass, with Wolfgang Van Halen opening. Alex Van Halen is auctioning of all of his music instruments and memorabilia, ahead of the release of his new book, Brothers, a tribute to his brother Eddie, who died from cancer in October 2020. Michael Anthony believes that Alex Van Halen could be retired from music.

Being auctioned to Van Halen fans is an absolutely stunning black and copper drum kit. It was exclusively designed for Alex Van Halen for the 2017-2018 Van Halen Tour, was in the process of being ordered and built but was not completed. This gorgeous kit includes six kick drums (four 14×26 and two 18×20), six toms (8×10, 8×12, 9×13, 10×14, 16×18, and 18×18 floor toms with legs), and six custom-made octobans with 8-inch heads (incomplete, missing counter hoops). Dimensions of the octobans are 12, 15, 17, 19, 21, and 23 inches.

Van Halen’s drum set for reunion is incredible

The set features eight Paiste 2002 Series cymbals, all branded with a black Van Halen logo. It was a first for the band, as the 2015 tour cymbals had a red logo. Included are 15-inch Sound Edge Hi Hat Top and Bottom, 19-inch Crash, 20-inch Crash, 20-inch Medium, 20-inch China, 22-inch Crash, and a 24-inch Reverend Al’s Big Ride.

Additional hardware includes one Atlas Pro snare stand (new in box), six Atlas Pro cymbal stands with booms (new in box), three extra floor tom legs, various drum rack mounts and hoops, and various copper parts. Missing pieces include the custom drum rack and a snare drum. All drum heads are branded with the VH logo, and most drum shells have the exclusive copper AVH 75-15 badge, first used on the 2015 kit.

While this never-before-seen drum kit did not make it to the road, it remains an exceptional piece of craftsmanship.
