Tool ripped off by JoJi Siwa

JoJo Siwa is being accused of stealing Tool‘s wrench logo design for her new merch.

The former “Dance Moms” star and pop singer is facing backlash after Tool fans noticed Siwa’s new merch seems to have ripped off Tool’s wrench design – which they used on the cover of their 1991 demo “72826” and on merch of their own.
Siwa revealed a vest and T-shirt design featuring the logo on her TikTok, with there being only slight differences between her’s and Tool’s. The new merch drop correlates with Siwa’s new EP “Guilty Pleasure” with the accompanying music video being construction themed. Despite her showcasing her “new” merch designs, they seem to not yet be available for purchase, with some speculating that the blowback has led to her team scrapping plans for the merch’s release all together.

Tool were sued over logo in 2005

This is not the first time this particular logo has caused Tool problems, with it previously being the source of a long-running legal battle. The design’s original artist, Cam De Leon, sued Tool in 2005, claiming that he had not been properly compensated for its continued use after its initial creation in the early ‘90s. De Leon’s case was eventually settled for $450,000.

This is the second time, though, in recent months that Siwa has been accused of copying a rock band. In April at the iHeartRadio Music Awards, she wore makeup and an outfit that appeared remarkably similar to the band KISS. Gene Simmson did, however, come to her defense despite admitting that she did seem to be copying his look, telling TMZ: “She looks cool.”
