Kelly Osbourne shared an emotional tribute to her father, rock legend Ozzy Osbourne, after his funeral took place this week.
Ozzy Osbourne died on July 22 at the age of 76 after a long battle with Parkinson’s disease, which he was diagnosed with in 2019. His passing came just a few weeks after performing with the original members of Black Sabbath at a farewell concert in Birmingham on July 5. It was their first time performing together in 20 years.
He was laid to rest on Thursday at his home in Buckinghamshire after a large public procession through the streets of Birmingham. Thousands of fans came to pay their respects.
Sharon Osbourne and their children Jack, Kelly, Aimee, and Louis walked behind his hearse as it stopped at important places from Ozzy’s life, including his childhood home in Aston. Fans lined the streets, chanting his name while a brass band played “Iron Man.” Sharon gave a tearful speech, and each of the children placed a pink flower wrapped in black paper at a memorial that read, “Birmingham will always love you.”
Kelly later posted a photo on Instagram showing a large flower display that read “OZZY F****** OSBOURNE” next to a lake on their estate. This is where Ozzy was buried.
The private funeral was held at the 250-acre estate that Ozzy and Sharon bought in 1993. About 110 close family and friends attended. Each guest received a black invitation with a cross and the words, “In loving memory of Ozzy Osbourne,” along with a photo keepsake. The home was decorated with pictures from Ozzy’s life, and a stage was set up where musicians like punk singer Yungblud performed in his honor.
Many well-known musicians attended the service, including members of Black Sabbath, James Hetfield of Metallica, Elton John, Corey Taylor from Slipknot, Marilyn Manson, and Ozzy’s longtime guitarist Zakk Wylde. Guests were brought in from local hotels to the estate for the ceremony.
Ozzy’s family said in a statement, “It is with more sadness than mere words can convey that we have to report that our beloved Ozzy Osbourne has passed away this morning. He was with his family and surrounded by love. We ask everyone to respect our family privacy at this time.”
The mayor of Birmingham, Zafar Iqbal, said that Ozzy was more than just a music icon. He was part of the city’s heart and history, and it was important for the city to honor him properly before the private funeral.
