Is Howard Stern leaving SiriusXM after more than 20 years? The longtime radio host says he will talk about reports that he’s been “fired” on his show next month.

The rumors began with a report from the U.K. tabloid The Sun on August 5, which claimed SiriusXM would not renew Stern’s contract when it ends in late 2025. SiriusXM has not commented on the story.

Instead of ignoring the talk, Stern is using it to boost interest in his show. On Friday, The Howard Stern Show account on X (formerly Twitter) posted a promo saying Stern will address his future on Tuesday, September 2.

The 45-second teaser included quotes from TV commentators saying things like “The downfall of Howard Stern” and “The guillotine is coming for Howard Stern.” A narrator then said, “The tabloids have spoken. Howard Stern: Fired. Canceled. Is it really ‘Bye-Bye Booey’?” — a reference to producer Gary “Baba Booey” Dell’Abate.

The promo ended with: “All the questions will be answered. All the truths will be told by the one man truly on the inside: Howard Stern will speak. Tuesday, September 2.”

Stern has long been the highest-paid radio host, reportedly earning more than $100 million a year under his SiriusXM deal. He first joined the satellite company in 2004, and his current contract runs until the end of 2025.

SiriusXM executives have said they hope Stern stays but also admitted they’re preparing for what comes after him if he decides to retire. “No one pretended when Johnny Carson retired that the new group would replace him,” SiriusXM president Scott Greenstein said last year. “We hope Howard continues forever, but we’ll be ready either way.”
