Duff McKagan recently shared some insights into the fun side of Guns N’ Roses‘ band dynamics during a chat with Guitar Interactive Magazine. According to McKagan, their WhatsApp group is filled with dad jokes. Axl Rose has definitely done some humorous things in his career.
“So many dad jokes,” the bassist told Guitar Interactive Magazine’s Jonathan Graham. “Dad jokes are so great because they’re so f*cking dumb. You try to get the dumbest joke you can. Like, hey, Bono and the Edge walk into a bar, and the bartender says, ‘Not U2 again.’”
“I don’t know how we’re gonna put it out. I think that’s a question too. Like, do you put out a record? Do you just keep putting out singles? I don’t know what the right answer is there in this day and age.”
The band is also working on new music, although they’re still deciding how to release it—either as a full album or as singles. Slash, the band’s guitarist, mentioned that they’re creating their own record without outside collaborators.
McKagan also pointed out the importance of working together in their songwriting process. He said that the band members push each other to make the best songs possible and stay open to suggestions.
“A good band is you can function like that and you all want just to serve the song and like, ‘Let’s all collectively get the best song out of this.’ That was so true with Guns. We just wanted to write the best songs we could. We all pushed each other and writing as a band you need that. You need to push each other. You got to be motivated and be really open.”
Guns N’ Roses hasn’t scheduled any shows for this year, but they might announce a tour and new music in 2025 based on what the band members have said.
