Smashing Pumpkins frontman Billy Corgan has revealed that Foo Fighters singer Dave Grohl’s ‘nicest guy in rock and roll’ reputation is not fake or an act, he really is the nicest guy in rock. Alternative Nation transcribed his Q&A remarks. Howard Stern revealed a bold Dave Grohl and Billy Corgan secret last year.

Nicest person in rock and roll?

“Probably Grohl. He really is that guy. And his feet have stayed planted on the ground, which is admirable.”

How come Cyr doesn’t carry the Shiny title but has the same art style? Easier name to say?

“Does it really matter? You got a plague, you got an election, you got people marchin’ but this is what’s spinning on your platter…”

Why was It All Goes Wrong era such a difficult time for you? Or too personal?

“Simply put, I think Jimmy Chamberlin and I thought we’d pick up where we’d left off with Machina, playing long, aggressive and creative shows that challenged us and the audience. Unfortunately the audiences didn’t get that memo, and just wanted (by and large, not all) the ‘hits.'”

Why aren’t you really into punk? That always surprises me about you.

“Again, not arguing, but what does it matter? I’m into a lot of things people don’t think are cool. And that, too, mostly doesn’t matter. It’s just music. Trust me if I like a band I don’t care what category they fall in. The Ramones were one of the greatest bands of ALL TIME. I started listening to them when I was 10. Is that punk enough for you.”
