Smashing Pumpkins frontman Billy Corgan praised Nine Inch Nails for getting into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in a new Instagram story Q&A. A Smashing Pumpkins member reacted to Soundgarden being snubbed from the Hall of Fame.

A fan asked, “Thoughts on NIN and Depeche Mode being inducted into Rock and Roll Hall of Fame?” Corgan responded, “Well deserved for both.”

Trent Reznor discussed NIN’s induction with Zane Lowe on Apple Music’s Beats 1, “I’m very happy to see Depeche get in there. Part of my struggle with the concept of Rock & Roll Hall of Fame is, what’s the barrier for entry? What’s the quantification of what deserves to be in there? I know everybody has their own opinions and that, but the fact it kind of becomes a competition where you’re up against these other guys, that’s the part that feels…No, I read like, Kraftwerk didn’t get in, and I’m like, ‘Look man, I voted for them.’

We got the sneak preview a couple of days ago, after being sworn to secrecy. So I came home from the hospital, having a baby, to have a letter I had to open at midnight, that was that news. It was the icing on the cake of a pretty intense day. And I spoke to Atticus the next day, and he was genuinely surprised and freaked out. And we’re not saying that to be humble. I mean, we both had kind of assumed that…

It’s not lack of confidence in our own material, it’s just… It’s always felt like we’re kind of… We’re not this and we’re not that. And it’s harder to quantify. I haven’t gotten any details, nor have I heard who… They choose who inducts you. So it’s a roll of the dice here. But my take on this is, it’s not going to change who I am. I’m grateful to be acknowledged. I’m allowing myself to feel good about it for a little bit.

And it’s just a… It’s a thing. One can critique it. One can put too much emphasis on it. I’m glad to be a part of it and I’m grateful for the acknowledgement, and now I’ve got some good stuff to work on today. You know. I kind of like to stay focused on looking forward, acknowledging what’s behind, but not dwelling and spending too much time thinking.” A Nine Inch Nails icon just leaked a painful Maynard James Keenan photo.
