TMZ recently did a story about Smashing Pumpkins frontman Billy Corgan’s NWA wrestling promotion working with actor and former WCW World Heavyweight Champion David Arquette, with Arquette wrestling Jocephus in a match where the loser got their head shaved (Arquette won). The report called Corgan the ‘former’ singer of The Smashing Pumpkins, insinuating that he had quit the band sometime in the last month since the Pumpkins wrapped up their 2018 tour.

The story stated, “NWA President and former Smashing Pumpkins frontman, Billy Corgan, kept the 2 men apart during the faceoff at the Pinnacle Family Entertainment Center in Clarksville, Tennessee.

Jocephus stormed the stage with a VHS copy of Arquette’s 2000 pro wrestling movie “Ready to Rumble” … mocking him as an actor and implying he had no business trying to measure up in the ring.”

Corgan responded on his Instagram story, “We made TMZ again with the NWA. Much appreciated! But if I’m the former singer for Smashing Pumpkins, I guess I should stop writing new songs for the band LOL.”

Billy Corgan is currently writing songs for a new Smashing Pumpkins album titled Shiny and Oh So Bright Vol. 2, and he is also working on material for a Smashing Pumpkins Christmas album. Both are expected to be released later in 2019, along with a new Billy Corgan double solo album. The Smashing Pumpkins released Shiny and Oh So Bright Vol. 1/LP: No Past. No Future. No Sun. in November, the first album to reunite Billy Corgan, James Iha, and Jimmy Chamberlin since the MACHINA albums in 2000.
