Bruce Springsteen Defends Anti Trump ICE Stance
Bruce Springsteen is pushing back against criticism of his recent anti-Trump and anti-ICE comments as he prepares for a politically focused stretch of appearances in Minnesota tied to his upcoming tour plans. The singer-songwriter addressed the backlash while discussing why he believes speaking out publicly is part of his role as an artist, even if it costs him part of his audience.
Springsteen said he is aiming to “meet the moment” ahead of this weekend’s “No Kings” rally in St. Paul, and New York Post reported that he framed the rally as “of great import right now” as he heads into what was described as a 20-day “Land of Hope and Dreams American Tour” beginning March 31 in Minneapolis.
In the interview, Springsteen said he does not spend time worrying about negative reactions, adding that he considers it straightforward: he will say what he wants to say, and others can respond as they choose. He also quoted guitarist Tom Morello when talking about the need for directness, saying, “Nuance is wonderful, and sometimes you have to kick them in the teeth.”
Springsteen’s comments arrive as he continues to draw attention for politically charged material, and the discussion follows prior fan disputes over pricing and access, including when Bruce Springsteen fans fumed over $3,000 tickets amid ongoing debate about the modern concert market.
Asked whether the current political climate makes his stance more urgent, Springsteen said he views the United States as facing an unusually “critical” challenge to its basic values, comparing the tension to the late 1960s when he was 18. With his tour set to begin imminently, the musician appears determined to keep his message front and centre, regardless of the blowback.
