Beyoncé, Eminem, The Weeknd, David Byrne, A Perfect Circle, St. Vincent, Vince Staples, SZA, Cardi B, HAIM, Fleet Foxes, Jamiroquai, Migos, Tyler the Creator, The War on Drugs, alt-J, Chromeo, Miguel, King Krule, Portugal. the Man, Greta Van Fleet, Chic featuring Nile Rodgers, Brockhampton, Soulwax, Jean-Michel Jarre, Kali Uchis, Angel Olsen, Daniel Caesar, Odesza, Kamasi Washington, MØ, Noname, Kelela, Kamaiyah, Princess Nokia, Jessie Ware, BØRNS, Perfume Genius, Moses Sumney, First Aid Kit, X Japan, Flatbush Zombies, Jidenna, Jorja Smith, FIDLAR, Oh Sees, Hundred Waters, Alvvays, Westside Gunn + Conway, Knox Fortune, and Japanese Breakfast are set to play Coachella.

The lineup features three pop/hip hop headliners, and is very light on rock acts. Rock is dead, at Coachella at least. The festival takes place on two weekends in April in Indio, CA. See the full lineup below.

You know instead of focusing on the overwhelming amount of shit on this lineup, write a piece about the two gems.

Greta van Fleet and Highly Suspect are two of the most popular modern rock bands at the moment. You love music right? Listen to the albums. You don’t even need to like them but as a Stone Temple Pilots fan there are bound to be moments here and there. Especially with the retro rock theme both bands have. Rock can be popular, you just need to give the new bands some light.

Drop the Perry Farrell, Gavin Rossdale and Twiggy Ramirez nothing stories and do a piece on new albums by newer bands. If you need help, I’m more than happy to send you my own free of charge.

We did do a video interview with Greta Van Fleet. If you’d like to write something for me to post, send it to grungereport @yahoo.com

I’ll get something in as soon as possible.

I don’t know if you’ve listened to Clutch, but this band PROVES ROCK IS NOT DEAD. Check out Earth Rocker, Psychic Warfare, Robot Hive/Exodus, Beale Street. They can’t make a bad song let alone a bad album. You will lose your shit. Guaranteed. They are independent, so maybe you don’t cover them(?). They’re usually put in the metal category, but they are PURE ROCK FURY (check that album too). Happy new year gift to you.

Highly Suspect and Greta van Fleet are great. I’d add to the list Radkey, Badflower, and Goodbye June. Plenty of good up-and-coming bands are out there if you look for them.

      • Eddie Yarler

I didn’t even notice Goodbye June! I like that Daisy song a lot. My favorite new band (2010s) is Red Sun Rising. Do you have one?

        • autumnal poets

Looks like Goodbye June isn’t going to be at Coachella, but they are good. RSR has some good stuff too. On the Coachella list, Nothing But Thieves (soft rock) and Jidenna (not rock) deserve a listen too. As for my favorite new band, I’m not sure. I really liked Highly Suspect for a while, but the lead singer is kind of a jerk on social media, which turns me off. They are very talented though.

Who could not feel hopeful for the talent that Greta Van Fleet ‘reveals”!!

  • JoelS

I assume you chose to overlook The War on Drugs, Greta Van Fleet, A Perfect Circle, Highly Suspect. This has been primarily a hip-hop/pop/electronica music fest for well over a decade.

Go to Bonnaroo, Rock on the Range or one of the other zillion music festivals if you want a heavy rock lineup.

  • iLeonD

Actually the lineup isn’t bad. Truthfully the only two new rock bands with any sort of real momentum are on the line up (Greta Van Fleet & Highly Suspect).

  • Geoff Bennett

Care to expand on that lazy clickbait headline? Anyone who thinks “rock is dead” based on Coachella’s lineup needs to open their ears.

Hearing Judith in the desert man! That’s the ticket right there man!

Greta Van Fleet writes and performs the best music my ears have heard in decades.

Talented young (21 & 18 years old) men (3 are brothers & 1 lifetime friend).

They are just as good, if not even better, live. You will enjoy.
