Dave Grohl detailed a dream he has once or twice a year that Kurt Cobain is still alive and about to reunite with Nirvana for a show in a new Kerrang Magazine interview. He called Nirvana’s reunion performance at Cal Jam ‘like living in that dream.’

“I still dream that Nirvana is still a band, and Kurt just appears – like he’s been in hiding (laughs). We look at him and go, ‘What the fuck?! Where have you been?’ And we’ve got a gig in an hour, and I get this feeling, like, ‘Oh my god, I get to play these songs again.’ I have that dream at least once or twice a year, and have for the last 24 years. Getting up to play those songs is like living in that dream.”

In 2013, Grohl discussed his final conversations with Cobain in a Rolling Stone interview. An overdose in Rome nearly killed Cobain’s prior to his eventual April 1994 death, and Grohl recalled his final conversation with his bandmate and friend. He states, “I called Kurt after Rome. I said, ‘Hey, man, that really scared everybody. And I don’t want you to die.’ Then I saw him at our accountant’s office [in Seattle]. He was walking out as I was walking in. He smiled and said, ‘Hey, what’s up?’ And I said, ‘I’ll give you a call.’ And he said, ‘Okay.'”
