Late Soundgarden frontman Chris Cornell and late Alice In Chains singer Layne Staley are sadly is still not in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, and Rock and Roll Hall of Fame President Joel Peresman recently confirmed rumors that Foo Fighters frontman Dave Grohl is part of the committee when asked on the Appetite for Distortion podcast. Dave Grohl recently discussed departures from Foo Fighters.

When asked directly about Cornell, who has been snubbed from the Hall of Fame, Peresman didn’t directly address that issue. It’s sad that Dave Grohl hasn’t been able to help get Chris and Soundgarden in yet, but we all know he must be hard at work on it! Alternative Nation transcribed Peresman’s comments. Dave Grohl was recently filmed crying.

Joel Peresman: Talking with the surviving members of [Nirvana], we were thinking:

“What could we do that’s different to represent Kurt [Cobain]?”

Peresman: To get another guy to do those vocals just didn’t feel right and it was an idea that came from them and our producers to say:

“What can we do differently?”

Peresman: And that’s what we did and that’s what these collections are all about – creating these once in a lifetime opportunities and people, especially, in that case, those women that got together to do those vocals were just like you, influenced by Nirvana. So, to have the opportunity to be able to do that part was something that they jumped at and just as you saw you created a moment that was unbelievable.

Brando: The same train of bands for other bands of that era – Soundgarden, Alice In Chains, etc. Assuming they get in, which I like to believe that they will, do you happen to have the same approach with a Chris Cornell or Layne Staley? Having perhaps, a female fill in for them during a performance? Are you thinking that far ahead?

Peresman: You know, yeah, again I don’t too far ahead of it because you really want to see is going to get inducted. Once we do, we have a pretty smart committee of people that say:

“Okay, how are we going to approach this?”

Peresman: As well as talking with the artist or surviving artists, you want to be respectful and you want to create something that is really great. So as it comes up – we will deal with it.

Brando: Speaking of the committee, is it true that Foo Fighters frontman Dave Grohl is on the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame Committee?

Peresman: Yes.

Brando: So, if you can, can you tell us what his role is and how that came about?

Peresman: Well, you know, Dave is a passionate music fan and when we are looking for people to be on the committee, we just don’t people on there because they’re stars. You’re looking for people that have a deep understanding of music and Dave has a deep understanding of music as well as a wide-ranging understanding and appreciation of a lot of different genres of rock and roll. We also have other artists on the committee, so it’s nice to have artists represented. Not just any artist but ones that are smart, know their history and have a very good point of view.

An Audioslave member recently made a ‘crazy’ Chris Cornell death claim.
