On July 5th, just 17 days before his death, Ozzy Osbourne took the stage for the last time at his and Black Sabbath’s final show “Back to the Beginning.” While the event featured performances by dozens of major bands and artists, one act noticeably missing was Megadeth.

While there was some fan speculation that Megadeth may have been uninvited to attend the charity concert, the band’s bassist James LoMenzo revealed in a recent interview that they were simply not asked to take part in the event.

“The truth of the matter is, I don’t believe that anybody asked us, which was fine. Not everybody gets invited to every party,” LoMenzo told Japan’s BURRN! Magazine.

Despite this, following the news that Osbourne had passed away this past Tuesday (July 22nd), Megadeth frontman Dave Mustaine paid tribute to the late metal pioneer.

In a short heartfelt message shared to Instagram, Mustaine wrote:

“Dear Ozzy, I’m gonna miss you. Not nearly as much as your incredible soulmate, Mrs. Osbourne. Thank you for everything you’ve done for us all. See you on the other side!”
