Foo Fighters engineer has revealed what shocked him about Dave Grohl: “I’ve never heard other musicians do it”
In speaking recently with “The Self-Recording Band,” Grammy-winning producer Brendan Dekora spoke about how impressed he was working with Grohl, noting that his musicality is nearly second to none:

“I was working with the Foo Fighters, and Dave is a very talented musician, as most people know. But there’s different levels of it. Obviously, there’s many musicians, famous and not famous, who are very talented. But Dave, he would go and do a vocal, sing the vocal down, and then he’d do a double.

Dave Grohl doesn’t cheat in the studio

“But the key is that he did not want to hear the first vocal. He sings the devil with nothing else, just by himself. And then, you turn them both on, and they’re so perfect and so tight — it’s impossible to do it that tight. It’s almost phasing at times. That was incredible because, I’ve heard people, really talented singers, get double so tight that it’s phasing, but I’ve never heard them do it without even hearing the other one, and just blindly do it again, and then it’s exactly perfect, the same exact thing… I don’t know [how he does it]. He’s always done it that way, and it obviously works for him.

“And same with guitars too. When he lays guitars, and he doubles the guitars, it’s the same thing. He turns off the original, lays it down perfectly. Turn them both on, it’s crazy. His timing is so perfect. His timing and pitch are so good, that he doesn’t want to hear the original.”
